Rip Curl announced that Lakey Peak- Sumbawa, Indonesia is good place for 2014 Rip Curl GromSearch International Final
Rip Curl is pleased to announce that the location for the 2014 Rip Curl GromSearch International Final will be Lakey Peak in Sumbawa, Indonesia.
Lakey Peak is an iconic surf spot and an aspirational location for junior surfers all over the world aged 16 and under. The choice of location is perfect to provide the best junior surfers in the world with an awesome experience and to assist in the development of their young professional careers.
Lakey Peak local and Rip Curl team rider, Oney Anwar is excited to hear the news. “The Rip Curl GromSearch events were really important for me to help develop my competitive edge, and I was just so stoked to learn that the final is coming to Lakey. I can’t wait to see how they go out there.”
The talented list of finalists include Jackson Giles and Isabella Nichols from Australia, Pat Curren and Brisa Hennessey from the USA, Tim Bisso and Tessa Thyssen from Europe and Gustavo Ramos and Kayane Reis from Brazil. The International wildcard will be Jacob Willcox from Australia with the remaining finalists being announced closer to the event date.
A host of current ASP World Tour surfers have come through the Rip Curl GromSearch series and know the importance of this event. None more so than Gabriel Medina, who said “I was so happy to win the GromSearch final at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, but to now to have it at Lakey Peak, it’ll be so much fun.”
The list of winners also includes Jordy Smith, Sally Fitzgibbons, Matt Wilkinson, Stephanie Gilmore, Owen Wright and Tyler Wright, establishing the event as a key stepping-stone for the future stars of world surfing.
